Some Highlights and Lowlights

Great to have football back and what an exciting start to season 2008. Highlights included the Adelaide Western Bulldogs game which the Dogs won by 3pts in Brad Johnson’s 300th game. A real touch of class by Scott West and Simon Goodwin to get their players to form a guard of honour for Brad’s departure at the end of the game.

Other highlights or lowlights include;

  • Collingwood’s victory over Fremantle,youth versus maturity.The Collingwood youngsters ran so much harder at the end.
  • The dominance of the key forwards in Round 1,Jonathon Brown 6 goals,Anthony Rocca 6 goals,Buddy Franklin 6 goals,Matthew Lloyd 6 goals and Matthew Richardson 5 goals.
  • More run and carry handball, West Coast 214 h/b, Geelong 193h/b, Richmond 185h/b, Western Bulldogs 170h/b, and Hawthorn160h/b.All Winners.
  • Melbourne’s poor start to season 2008, they really looked disinterested.
  • The suffocation game between Sydney and St. Kilda .Close and exciting at the end but a poor advertisement for football otherwise.
  • Stuart Dew’s stunning return to AFL football for Hawthorn ,25 possessions and 2 goals says a lot about his commitment and desire.
  • The debut of Matthew Knights as coach and Essendon’s revamped and hard running midfield.
  • Kane Johnson’s public urination charge - poor timing after Richmond’s good win against Carlton. Does he deserve another chance? I believe he does.
